Ramble: New Year, Fresh Cynicism

Hey all, took a little break for a while over the holidays. Back now and ready to face whatever this year has to throw at me. I have some thoughts that I need to clear moving forward.

I don’t knock people for trying to better themselves, far from it. You do you. Be the best person you can be. Rock that positive mental attitude. Let’s all make resolutions and do our best to stick to them.

However for a number of people that I know, this past holiday season has been an utter disappointment. Whether family arguments have broken out or the stress of it all has them at breaking point so it didn’t really feel like a “holiday”. This is for you guys.

You are very much entitled to a break if things get too much. Society puts so much pressure on us to be happy for the people around us. I put out this question: How the heck are you supposed to radiate all this positivity when you’re wound up tighter than a spring or so bone chillingly uncomfortable around “loved ones” that it makes you want the ground to open up and swallow you whole?

Whoa, lighten up Josh. Everyone does it so why complain about it?

I’m not saying we can’t be happy around our loved ones. But as the saying goes “you can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your family” and toxic people remain toxic in December as well as the rest of the year.

My honest advice right now is if you’re feeling drained beyond reason. Spend some time with the people who actually care about you. Unless you’re really good at pretending to be nice to people who suck the life out of you.

This year for me is one where I’m hoping to gain new lease of life. To get myself together and get a proper routine going. I’m beginning to come to the understanding that my attitude towards myself needs to change but my outlook on others doesn’t.

Nobody’s going to like you if you’re miserable all the time. Some can’t stand to see you happy. Learn to make your own happiness from within and then share that with the people you deem worthy of it. Look after yourself as a priority, but don’t judge others too harshly. Expect nothing from anyone. Anything else is a bonus.

Apologies to my regular readers if this doesn’t make a lot of sense. This holiday period has been a bad time for me and some people I know. I just wanted to put my two cents forward, put pen to paper and move on with a realistic attitude.

I really hope 2019 brings good things to all of us. We have RE2 Remake to look forward to at the end of the month and I’ve recently obtained a copy of the original Divinity: Original Sin. So you can bet I’ll be making builds and guides for those. Happy New Year all, let’s get this bread.
